Erika Hewston Headshot 2025.JPG

Erika Hewston is a Pennsylvania-based textile artist whose work explores the emotional and sensory power of handmaking. Rooted in the traditions of weaving and quilting, her practice embraces process as both a creative engine and a personal refuge. Drawing inspiration from a lifelong connection to craft—nurtured by her mother and grandmother—Erika began quilting at age nine and discovered weaving in high school, setting her on a path of textile exploration.

She earned her BFA in Textiles and Material Studies and a BSBA in Business Management from Kutztown University in 2018, followed by a Master’s in Arts Administration in 2024. Erika’s handwoven pieces, known for their vibrant colorwork and layered textures, have been exhibited locally and internationally and featured in prestigious fine craft shows, including the American Craft Council Baltimore Craft Show, Smithsonian Craft2Wear, and the Academy Art Museum Craft Show.

In addition to her studio practice, Erika is deeply committed to art administration, supporting and elevating the contemporary craft community through thoughtful programming and exhibition work. Her experience includes serving as Exhibitions Director at Peters Valley School of Craft, where she developed and presented dynamic showcases, as well as her current role as Program Coordinator for the Handweavers Guild of America, where she continues to foster meaningful connections within the field of handweaving.
